Art Journal Page - 'Innocence Found'

I'm on a bit of a gold leaf roll at the moment! Here I've used the swan element from Sissy Sparrow's 'The Paper Swan' kit, plus the usual Dylusions ink sprays, spritzing, flicking and straw blowing.   My youngest daughter Ella, is the model for this layout!  

 

Art Journal - 'Shine Bright'

Now this page went through a few stages. Em and I broke out our gelli plates and spent a couple of hours having fun experimenting. From there, I ran it through the printer using one of Emma's digital brush sets. Machine stitch on some text paper, distress ink around the edges, stamp, stencil on different sized punchinella and the sun rays, add a title and written quote, add a little bit more black messy paint around the edges and voila!   Messy Perfection!!

that's for you to do!

 

I've used a multitude of different products, sizes and techniques.  

I've dived into my collection of different text pages, created my own stencils,

dragged out my sewing machine and glued, spritzed, inked and

sewn like never before!!

 

These are one-off backgrounds that can be included in your art journal,

cut down to create ATC's or tags, punched, added to and built upon.

I finished this little number today! I still find it amazing that I can start with a plain white cardstock, absolutely no direction or outcome in mind, then ink, brayer, glue, stitch, blend, flick etc and I wind up with something I really like!  

   

Art Journal - 'One Step'

This is my second hybrid layout that I've attempted and I'm still feeling my way, but I love being able to combine digital images with traditional hands-on, get messy gluing and spritzing.

 

There are so many beautiful digital kits on the market that had me drooling when finally the light bulb went on and I realised I can use these images in my art.

 

I purchased a kit called 'Acid Wash' from Sissy Sparrows, and by digitally altering and then printing them, some on paper and some on Grafix Rub-ons, I had these gorgeous elements ready to use.

 

  Step-by-step 

• Glue down a page from an old encyclopedia onto a base card.
• Gesso randomly over the top.
• Spritz with 'Patina' and 'Tarnished Silver' Glimmer Mists by Tattered Angels. 
• I used a stencil I had hand cut out of acetate (a large 'X').
• Use an ink blender and 'Faded Jeans' distress ink pad, ink over the stencil.
• Run a line of 'Vibrant Turquoise' by Dylusions down the left hand side of the page, spritz with water and move the card so the ink runs in dribbles from left to right.
• Prick a pattern in the card and embroider, leaving some empty.
• Add images, words, rub-ons and crown.
• Flick black india ink over card.
• Ink blend over the embroidery thread and along the edges with 'Squeezed Lemonade' and 'Ripe Persimmon' distress ink pads to finish.

   

There are a lot of free images out there for personal use, so if you see a digital image or kit you like, don't be afraid to download and use it. The possibilities are endless!!!

 

Art Journal Page - "Watching"

  I started working on this page at a friends house - well, my anxiety levels shot through the roof!  Who woulda thunk? I didn't cope well without all my favourite inks, tools and stamps on hand. When I returned home this page came together smooth as silk! I didn't realise I'd become so dependent on my old faves. Learn something new every day!     I had a ball using inks, dimension paint, stencils, punchinella, doodling, stamps, rub-ons and scraps from my desk. Amazing what you can find just laying around. The head I cut from an old book as well as the word strips and the #10 tag is from an article of clothing. I even got out my Grafix Rub-onz and printed a page of images to use in this and upcoming projects!   and yes, it got messy!!!

Dear oh dear! I'm on a roll. I haven't done much work with digital art, so I downloaded some digi kits from Sissy Sparrows (LOVE!!) and had a ball creating this layout. Now to start printing some of those images and creating a hands-on, inky masterpiece!    

Page Drafts Christmas Sketch 2013 Release

  

 

 

Today is the release of the new Christmas sketches from Page Drafts!

 

 

 

I chose this particular sketch below to create a journal page.

 

 

I wanted to show that you can use a sketch other than for scrapbooking.  I know that it's not Christmassy, somehow I kind of missed that when designing this layout! (I know!!!  I don't think I've started channelling the festive spirit yet!)  Anyhoo, I used both hand cut and bought stencils, scrapbooking patterned paper, washi tape, doilies, stamping, a transparency, a punch and ink. I was amazed at how easy it came together.

"Falling Apart"

I started this page off with a stencil experiment that went awry and wondered what the heck am I going to do with this. I'm always kind of anxious when I do a page, is it perfect? it is good enough? does it have meaning? (what is that anyway?) so to start off on a page that I already deemed ruined I didn't have any inhibitions or worries about what I put on it. I felt very free. I used the scraps and offcuts on my desk and just stuck them down. From there added my favourite textures, covered up more mistakes and kept going with the crackle paint and spritzing until I was happy. This has to be one of my favourite pages. Lesson learnt:  LET GO!!!!
